Tatico (Toddly Tales) series is a collection of picture books for young children (ages 2 to 5), written by Laleh Jafari and illustrated by Ali Khodai. The books’ interactive structure, humorous tone, and indirect approach to teaching essential skills make them well-suited for adaptation into animation and interactive games. The first book in the series, Come, pee pee, uses simple and humorous language to teach children about bladder control and the appropriate time and place for using the toilet. For this reason, it can be considered a training guide for toilet training.
The book indirectly helps children develop bladder control skills. Its repetitive sentences and fixed pattern in the text enhance effective learning, while the illustrations facilitate understanding of different situations. With the help of this book, parents and educators can teach children that using the toilet is an important skill and a part of personal independence. The humorous nature of the book also helps reduce the psychological pressure children may experience while learning this skill. The second book, titled Come, out out!, teaches children how to be independent in daily activities such as brushing their teeth, drying their hands, combing their hair, and eating.
The book indirectly encourages children to take responsibility for their personal tasks and is suitable for teaching self-care skills. The author’s choice of a happy and motivating ending inspires children to gain confidence in handling their personal routines. This book can serve as a practical guide for parents in teaching everyday skills. Due to its impact on boosting self-esteem and fostering a sense of capability in children, it can also be included in educational kits for kindergartens.
The third book, titled Come, yum yum!, introduces concepts such as object recognition, their uses, and distinguishing edible from non-edible items. The child character in this book wants to eat something delicious but encounters various objects (a pencil, a key, a shoe, a ring, a glove), each with a specific function and none of which are edible. In the end, a banana is introduced as real food. This entertaining educational story helps children understand the functions of different objects. Its repetitive structure reinforces learning and encourages interaction with the child. The fourth book, titled Come, ding dong!, teaches children about dangerous objects, showing them that an iron, scissors, a kettle, a knife, and an electrical socket are not toys, while toys are safe play items.
In addition to its interactive structure and effective use of onomatopoeia to capture children’s attention, the book fosters awareness and critical thinking, helping children understand what is safe for play and what is not. The fifth book, titled Come Sleepy Time, focuses on sleep and a child’s sense of security. This short story, through the repetition of simple, rhythmic sentences, introduces children to the concept of "the right place to sleep." In addition to its simple, rhythmic language and engaging, expressive illustrations, the book emphasizes feelings of security and comfort in sleep, helping children develop healthy sleep habits. Parents can use this book for bedtime stories, quality bonding time with their children, and teaching independent sleeping habits.
